Royal Navy Target Rifle Club
Competitions with other rifle clubs are held regularly between March and October each year, primarily at the National Shooting Centre, Bisley. Entry fees are generously subsidised for serving members. An Open Meeting is held each year, usually over the middle weekend of September. Single shot fullbore 7.62mm target rifles are used to fire from ranges from 300 to 1000 yards (and occasionally 1100 yards). The club holds 10 rifles, 6 of which are reserved for use by serving members only. All levels of experience and ability are catered for during training and competition days, which are held frequently during the summer months. The main competitions shot by serving members are:
The Short Range match is 1 sighting shot and 10 scoring shots at 300 and 600 yards, the Long Range is 1 sighter and 10 scoring shots at 900 and 1000 yards. Both teams contain a Captain, and Adjutant, 12 firers, and 3 or 4 wind coaches. All other matches are open to all members of the RNTRC, including the Inter-Services Pentangular (May), and the Trafalgar Match (RN vs RM) (Oct). Membership currently costs £10/year, with a £5 joining fee. Contact the Secretary for further details.
